Polskie LNG’s commitment to a renowned event in Świnoujście
Last weekend, the Baltic beach saw authentic Hussars crushingly defeat Swedish troops. Over 100 “soldiers” took part in re-enactment of the battle.
After four editions of the event held in WWI and WWII setting, we shifted to 17th century, when Swedish troops arrived to the beaches of Uznam island and marching routes of Stefan Czarniecki’s army crossed the entire West Pomerania territory (in 1657 and 1658). These years were rather infamous, as Czarniecki’s army burnt to ashes over 150 villages in the vicinity of Szczecin. Earlier, the Swedish armada arrived at Uznam beaches, explains Piotr Piwowarczyk, the president of Świnoujście Tourist Organization which organizes the event. – The arrival of Swedish troops led by the ‘Lion of the North’ – king Gustav II Adolf in Uznam in 1930 was a source of inspiration for the event’s scenario. The Swedish built an actual military port in Krasibór, and the king was accommodated in the parsonage of a local church. There are more interesting episodes in the history of West Pomerania. We hope that such events will help commemorate and promulgate history in this interesting way.
The Days of the Fortress on the Islands were the culminating point of celebrations of the 250th anniversary of granting town privileges to Świnoujście; Polskie LNG had a pleasure to be a patron of this jubilee.
– The city of Świnoujście is 250 years old. For several recent years we have been a part of this city and contributed to its identity. We feel responsible for our actions and Świnoujście citizens, therefore we must have been present at such a noble jubilee, emphasises Maciej Mazur, Corporate Communications director at Polskie LNG. – Especially, due to the fact that the company has cooperated with the local tourist organization since 2012.
The Days of the Fortress on the Islands is just one of several local promotional events that Polskie LNG has contributed to. The events that are still to come include Świnoujście Match Race sailing tournament and Sail Świnoujście, as well as the Day of the Lighthouses’ Fans and FAMA festival. Polskie LNG also contributes to organization of these events.
