  • The term "natural gas" reflects that it originates deep underground.

Often it is found together with crude oil and carbon. The main component of natural gas is methane.

  • Natural gas is odourless, colourless and lighter than air.

Prior to injecting natural gas into the distribution system, natural gas is odorised in order to be detectable when discharged in the air. Natural gas is more environmentally friendly

  • The liquefied natural gas has a temperature of -160°C approximately; it is twice colder than the coldest place in the world.

Its volume is over 600 times smaller than in gaseous form. Liquefied gas may be transported in specially dedicated tanks.

  • LNG is an acronim for liquefied natural gas.

Gas was first liquefied by a British physician and chemist Michael Faraday in 1823. Sixty years later, two brilliant Polish scientists: Zygmunt Florenty Wróblewski and Karol Olszewski managed to liquefy oxygen and nitrogen.

  • LNG is transported onboard great vessels called methane carries which may be as long as three soccer pitches!

The most modern ones are called Q-Max and Q-Flex. Letter Q in their name symbolises a small country in the Arabian Penninsula - Qatar - which is the greatest producer of LNG in the world.

  • The LNG terminal is a facility where liquefied gas is transformed into a gaseous form used also in private houses.

This transformation from liquid into gaseous form occurs when LNG is heated. In the Świnoujście plant, this heating process is conducted using warm water.

  • Natural gas produced at the LNG terminal in Świnoujście will be transmitted to our houses.

Once transformed into a gaseous form, natural gas will be injected into gas transmission system in Poland. By meeans of connections of Polish transmission system with gas distribution grids abroad, the fuel from Poland may be exported to many European countries.
